The oath day (pano #6)

Not a panoramic landscape or cityscape, maybe a headscape …

I took this picture during the day when the young recruits of the Finnish army gave the oath to serve the country honestly and to the best of his or her ability. The well-shaved white heads were like strange plants blooming at any moment, surrounded by the beautiful green forest in Vekaranjärvi.

What a wonderful shot, I like your analogy, I see them as a lot of bubbles about to rise to the surface of a pond. Are head lice still a problem in Finland? Here the shaving of heads has long been discontinued. It must be cold in winter. I wonder if it causes head colds among some young men.

    • … or mushrooms …

Shaving heads is more of a common ritual for the guys, not because of lice problem, not because shaving head is mandatory – it’s not. I guess heads are not shaved in the same scale during the winter, though for the bold-headed, and for all, the army has very warm hats.
