Preparing for winter

All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.

  1. Serenity of winter – great expression

Great image! I love the way the milky white background of shoreline and clouds surrounds the shape of the tree in he foreground. Lovely composition and tonal range.

A few years ago I’d have dismissed the poem as foolish anthropomorphising of nature, but now I don’t, I think it is excellent. We have evolved in the same way as trees and every other living thing, from identical ‘building blocks’, and it makes sense to use the words that describe our behaviour to describe the activities of all other life. Sleeping, protecting… that is what the trees do.
Very clever photo, monochrome can be very expressive.
