Meta4 is fizzy oil in a hot pan

Dubrovnik in Helsinki is a “public living room equipped with a stage”. A few times per year it is the venue for Klasariklubi (“Classical music club”), hosted by Minna Pensola.

Yesterday night at the stage was the string quartet Meta4, which is one of the leading string quartets in Europe, known especially for their interpretations of Dmitri Shostakovich‘s music.

Maija Pensola (violin) is one of the leading members of the quartet. The other musicians are Antti Tikkanen (violin), Atte Kilpeläinen (viola) and Tomas Djupsjöbacka (cello).

But why such a title for this blog? It is a metaphor to describe the musical atmosphere the quartet created last night.

Here are some more pictures from their inspiring performance yesterday. All pictures taken with 70-200 mm f/4.0 lens from the same spot because the venue was packed. (Click to enlarge the images.)
