Yusef Lateef Quartet, Pori Jazz 1972


Sunday was sunny and warm in Kirjurinluoto on 16 July 1972, a perfect day for Pori Jazz 72  picnic jazz concert. The price of the ticket – 3 marks, about 50 cents – for this concert sounds today very decent.

The biggest jazz star on the stage during the afternoon was Yusef Lateef, saxofonist and flutist, with his quartet. In drums was Albert Heath, in bass Bob Cunningham and in piano Kenny Barron.

Yusef Lateef recorded LP “Hush ‘N’ Thunder” the same year 1972. Here is an example from the record, “The Hump”, composed by the pianist Kenny Barron. I can not claim I remember what Lateef’s quartet played that year, but I am pretty sure we heard this:
