Freezing but sunny March

We in Finland will most like have the coldest March in 50 years, but hopefully not in the measured history. March 1917 will hold the record (ref. in Finnish). We have also a lot snow, again.

I took this picture a week ago. After a cold night (c. -20 C) the sun warmed the air to maybe -5 C. This is an HDR image of three different exposures, hand-held.

  1. OK, it’s cold outside but with this weather you can make great photos! You just have to wear warm clothes and than … if the sun shines, you can enjoy a nice walk outside.

Rather you than me. How many layers of clothes do you wear? Do you have the latest in thermal underwear, or rely on furs and other animal skins? Doesn’t your nose get frostbite? Minus 20C! argh! The snow seems so smooth, is it because it has thawed once then frozen? The sun-rays are effective. Did you choose b&w because there is no other colour?

    • 🙂 I stayed inside during the cold nights! Luckily there has not been too windy, so the coldness has not been that bad. – You’re right about the snow: it has smoothened during synny days. – B&W seemed to be more striking with the sun rays.

  3. The hdr did bring out excellent detail in the foreground snow, but it created some artefacts around the tree trunks on the upper left…

In any case, lovely framing and subject.
