Passau, Germany in 1973

Passau in Germany – the city of three rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz – is today suffering by severe floods. In July 1973 the weather was much nicer when I stopped there during my interrail trip. Here a some pictures from that time, compared to some photos from the recent years.

The picture below I took from the Prinzregent-Luitpold Bridge. The Old Townhouse is on the left. Now the Townhouse Square has been flooded.

Around 2010 the houses look whiter and tourist boats bigger (photo credit HanBlog.net):

The second picture I took near Passau Youth Hostel (Jugendherberge), towards southeast, showing how the dark water of river Danube is mixing with the whiter water of the river Inn.

I could not find a picture taken from the same footsteps, but close enough (photo credit Carefreetrip.com). You can also see how the city has been expanding on the south side of the river Danube.
