June 5 was a sunny day followed by a warm night in Helsinki. Those of us, who decided to sneak to the shadows of the movie theatre Andorra and bar Dubrovnik next to the theatre, were not disappointed.

We Jazz  Ltd (FB link) organized a memorable night full of inspiration: at Andorra Aki Rissanen Trio played live top jazz in an artistic synchrony with the animated movie Amorandom (link in Finnish), directed by Tuula Leinonen and Antti Peränne (1928-2012, obituary in Finnish).  – The members of pianist Aki Rissanen’s trio are Antti Lötjonen, bass and Teppo Mäkynen, drums.

Then we heard something different. The stage, in practice the whole bar was filled with energy when Mopo’s Linda Fredriksson (sax), Eeti Nieminen (drums) and Eero Tikkanen (bass) arrived and started to play. Mopo’s musical fireworks inspired artist Anna Tahkola to create intriguing images.

Mopo’s music has been called as punk-jazz. I heard in their play also avant-metal and contemporary classical music. It reminded me of Ornette Coleman’s free jazz concert in Pori Jazz 1978, not to mention kids’ play at the backyard.

This was a great and fun concert and show at the same time. See the video and judge yourself.
