50,000!

This week my blog passed 50,000 views milestone.
Thank You all my regular, random and one-time readers!

When I started this blog in January 2011, it was hard to believe that I could get this much visibility in about two and half years. I started to write in Finnish, but soon I liked to expand my audience outside the five million Finnish speakers, so I changed the language to BELF (= bad ELF), with only occasional posts in Finnish, if the topic was clearly “finncentric”.

This change boosted the traffic. I have got readers at least (WP statistics do not cover the first year of my blog) from 114 countries: most from Finland, followed by USA, Argentina, UK and Australia. There are still white spots e.g. in Africa and Middle East, China and Greenland.

How the readers have found this blog? Mostly using search engines as expected. But quite surprisingly, the most used search term has been “pekka pöyry” (a Finnish jazz musician) with over 500 hits. 16 out of 20 top search terms used are persons’ names.

I have covered a wide spectrum of topics. Maybe even too wide. Photography is the umbrella for most of my blog posts. Under that there are three major themes: travel, music (jazz) and change (in business and society), clearly exposing my interests.

We Finns appear to be shy and quiet. The commenting of my blog is backing up this understanding: there are hardly any comments by Finns,  but pleasingly many from other countries.

I mentioned already, that I have no visitors from Greenland, yet.  Do I get one now, if I add a picture which I took during a scientific meeting in Ilulissat in May 1988,  though it has nothing to do with this blog post … only to boost the traffic. 😉
