There are about half a million guanacos in in South America, but it was still a nice surprise to see one while driving high in the Andes, somewhere here. The Argentine side of the Andes is very dry and there are not much wild life to be seen.
Guanacos are better known by their domesticated cousins, llamas and alpacas. They are normally running as a group, but we saw only one. – Luckily we were quite far, they can spit up to a distance of two meters.
