Isle of Skye 1978

The most western large island of Scotland, Isle of Skye and there the village of Uig  was my utmost destination during my interrail and hitchhike trip in summer 1978.

I planned to spend the night in the youth hostel of Uig, but to my bad luck it was closed due to fire, so I could spent only one day there. These pictures are from or near Uig, Kyleakin and Kyle of Lochalsh, the village on the mainland Scotland, from where I could take the train.

All are scanned slides which were slightly faded.

The two photos with the boats are superb, especially the large old wreck. Such a perfect illustration of foreground, middle ground and distance, complete with aerial as well as lineal perspective, all linked by that stretch of water – calm as a millpond, completing the range of interesting textures. I’ve saved this one for my desktop..

Lovely especially the one with the river cascading down

  3. One of those places I hope to one day visit. Great photos and not too much faded. Love the boat in low tide and the river photos !
