Suomen 97 itsenäisyyden vuotta – 97 years of independence of Finland

Vaikka Etelä-Suomen sää on tänään 6.12.2014 harmaa ja sateisen kostea,
juhlimme jälleen ilolla itsenäisyyttämme.
Onnittelut 97-vuotiaalle Suomi-neidolle!

Thought the weather in Southern Finland is today 6th of December 2014 grey and rainy, we will celebrate with joy our independence.
Congratulations to the 97 years old Maiden of Finland!

And the creamy discs with orange borders are?

    • Light bulbs out of focus. I shoot the picture through a vine decorated with a light chain.

They have an odd, psychological effect. Despite the somewhat sadly limp flag and bare birch trees, and what looks like snow and a depressingly grey sky, they’re like fuzzy symbols of hope…Yes, I know I’m stupid to always see symbolism in perfectly straightforward pictures, but I often wonder if unconsciously we choose to make photographs, drawings and paintings that reflect our inner, unconscious ideas.
I’ve just noticed the border of ‘aged’ uneven edging, It looks perfect with this photograph. I think it is a very fine composition.
Only 97 years…Not long, is it. Independence of discrete cultures from overlords is such a wonderful thing to have achieved. So many of the world’s problems today result from botched independence movements due to their old oppressors refusing to let go.
