Today 15th of February 70 years ago born Edward Vesala. He was – and still is -one of the best known and internationally praised Finnish avant-garde jazz composer, drummer and bandleader of the 1900’s. He died on 4th of December 1999 at the age of 54.

I photographed Edward Vesala twice during the early 1970’s. The first picture is taken in Vaasa Youth Festival 1971 where he played with with his band Karelia (posted earlier here), and the second in Pori Jazz 1972 when his was playing with Nordic All Stars group.
