The lust for minimalism – Dawn of Midi

Rhythms were mesmerizing.
Tones were simple.
Sound was loud.
Music had no breaks.
The band was on the skin of the audience.

This was Dawn of Midi, US based trio with diverse origins. Drummer Qasim Naqvi is from Pakistan, bassist Aakaash Israni from India, and pianist Amino Belyamani from Morocco. They were playing last December in We Jazz Festival in Helsinki.

Photographing in the club was a challenge. Lights were dimmed. Using flash would ruin the feeling (and would not been liked). Cramped, no space to move around. Many photographers, all seeking the best shooting spot.

The shaky, blurred images convey somehow the true club ambiance.

About Olli Laasanen

Eyes and ears open. New and old. Jobs and hobbies. Pictures and music. Entertaining and serious. Change and stability. Nature and urban.
