African penguins are adorable animals

African penguins (Spheniscus demersus), also known as Jackass penguins, are only found on the south-western coast of Africa, living in colonies in the coastal line of Namibia and South Africa. I took these pictures at Boulders Beach in Cape Town, where they can be easily followed in close distance from the purposely build platforms.

One distinct feature of these penguins is the pink gland above their eyes which helps them to cope with changing temperatures. When the temperature gets hotter, the body sends more blood to these glands to be cooled by the air surrounding it.
