Little egret – white against black

I spotted this Little egret under a pier in Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The contrast between a pure white bird and almost black steel bars makes the image almost graphical.

Little egret (Egretta garzetta, silkkihaikara in Finnish) is a small (c. 500 grams) and very common heron living in southern Europe, Middle East, Africa, southern Asia and Australia. Globally, the little egret is not listed as a threatened species and has in fact expanded its range over the last few decades.

I will post every week “Thursday Twitters”, pictures of birds mainly from
Finland and Southern Africa, occasionally also taken elsewhere.
The source of the text is most likely Wikipedia or similar online article.
