The summer comes with White Wagtail

White wagtail (Motacilla alba, västäräkki in Finnish) is one of the most common bird across Europe and Asia, but only a scarce visitor in Alaska in Americas. For us in Finland this migrant is the sign of summer:

“Kuu kiurusta kesään, puoli kuuta peipposesta,
västäräkistä vähäsen, pääskysestä ei päivääkään.”

“A month till summer from a lark, half a month from a finch,
a while from the wagtail, from the swallow not a day.”

I will post every week “Thursday Twitters”, pictures of birds mainly from
Finland and Southern Africa, occasionally also taken elsewhere.
The source of the text is most likely Wikipedia or similar online article.
