Hooded crow having lunch

Hooded crow (Corvus cornix, varis in Finnish) is one of the most intelligent and adaptable birds. Here one is having yogurt (and probably reading daily news afterwards), and the other eating cherries stolen from a market vendor. Pictures taken close to Helsinki Market Square in Finland ten years apart in June 2006 and July 2016, so apparently these are different individuals.

Finland and Southern Africa, occasionally also taken elsewhere.

  1. Great series! I love this bird, Olli. Is he naturally that grey colour on his back etc, or is he just very grubby? We have magpies here that sometimes visit looking very grey and bedraggled.

Smart bird indeed! I remember, In Helsinki, on the railway station, the crow found a piece of dry bread, s/he put it into the puddle and waited a bit till it will get soft..
